Preethi was called to the bar in 1976 and she joined the Conveyancing Department of Sudath Perera Associates in the latter part of 2017 as a Legal Consultant and is engaged in drafting of legal instruments covering a variety of land related transactions.

After her initial internship and study under senior lawyers of different fields of law in Hultsdorf, she started her legal career in 1980 as an Assistant Manager at the State Mortgage & Investment Bank and was actively involved in handling legal documentation relating to property development, construction and bridging finance loans which involved drafting of a variety of instruments. She further handled the legal documentation relating to the construction projects of the island wide human settlements development program called ‘Gamudawa’ and the ‘Million Houses Program’ launched by the then Government with public and private participation. These schemes involved development of private and public freehold and lease hold lands.

In 2005, she joined the National Insurance Corp. Ltd. as the Head of Legal (which was later taken over by Janashkthi Insurance Company Ltd) and was responsible for formulating and launching a Title Insurance scheme which involved evaluation of risks in defective titles to land for the purpose of granting insurance cover to enable lending institutions to accept such properties as security for granting loans. Consequently, as the Assistant General Manager (Legal) and Head of Legal of Janashakthi Insurance Company, she was called upon to perform all corporate legal functions of the Company and its subsidiaries which included litigation, conveyancing, evaluation of risks in defective titles to land and evaluation of customers to issue Guarantee Bonds commonly used in the construction industry. She was also engaged in drafting of various types of agreements covering all types of transactions.

From 2015 to 2017 she served as a Legal Consultant to Orient Finance PLC and as Head of Legal she was called upon to establish a legal department, train staff and formulate the legal processes and procedures for same. Among other, she was responsible for formulating a Property Mortgage Loan Scheme which included drafting the security instruments for the purpose of granting loans to customers for properties deriving title from state grants, permits, condominiums, Bimsaviya lands, and other types of movable and immovable properties.
